Patrick W.A. Handreke, Chairman
Patrick is the co-founder of Signal Hill Equity Partners, responsible for investor relations with and fundraising from its European investor clients and currently also serves as Chairman of Northam Realty Advisors Limited, a Canadian real estate investment management firm primarily funded with European capital, established in 1971, with a current property portfolio in excess of 6.1 million square feet valued in excess of $2.1 Billion.
In private equity, Patrick actively participated in the consolidation of the North American automotive parts distribution industry as Chairman of Metrix Holdings Inc. until 1999.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Patrick received his B.A. in Commerce and Economics from the University of Toronto.
James C. Johnson, Managing Partner
James is the co-founder of Signal Hill Equity Partners and has over 25 years’ experience investing and building companies. He started his business career as a senior executive at Newcourt Credit Group and helped build the second-largest non-bank finance company in the world. As a member of Newcourt's Investment Committee, he helped accumulate a portfolio of debt and equity investments in excess of $28 billion, and assisted in completing 26 acquisitions.
James has extensive operational and financial restructuring experience, serving as Chairman, CEO and President of a number of public and private companies including, MDC Corporation and Farley Windows (now part of Gienow Windows and Doors), and helped transform them from positions of financial distress to profitable companies. He was previously a Partner at EdgeStone Capital Partners, one of the most successful private-equity firms in Canada, and was the co-founder of Ironbridge Equity Partners Inc.
James serves as Chairman of Westridge Cabinets Ltd. and C&V Portable Accommodations Ltd., CCI Group Inc., OEL Projects Ltd., Romet Ltd and City Wide. He previously served as Chairman of Orbit Garant Drilling Inc., and was Vice Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors of both Newcourt Capital Inc., and Farley Windows and Doors Ltd. He also served on the Board of Directors of Gesco Industries Inc., Davis + Henderson Income Fund and Labstat International Inc.
He holds an MBA - LLB degree from the University of Windsor, where he previously received his Bachelor of Commerce degree. James taught insolvency and restructuring law at the University of Windsor Law School. He is also the founder and a lecturer of the Advanced Business Law course. This course is designed as a workshop that aims to bring together academics and real life cases in order to provide students with practical insights and experiences in M&A, securities, corporate finance and insolvency and restructuring. James received many scholarships and awards including the Clark Award for his outstanding service to the University of Windsor.
Imran Siddiqui, Partner
Imran joined Signal Hill in 2009, and has over 10 years of experience in private equity and investment banking. Previously, he worked as an Associate in the Investment Banking division of Merrill Lynch Inc., where he was part of a team assisting with mergers, acquisitions and financing transactions for companies in the North American aerospace, pharmaceutical, mining, retail and manufacturing industries. Imran has also worked as an Associate at The Abraaj Group, an emerging-markets-focused private-equity firm with over US-$7.5 billion of assets under management.
Imran is actively involved with CCI Group Inc., where he facilitated the completion of five tuck-in acquisitions. He also serves on the Board of Directors of City Wide Towing & Recovery Service Ltd. and OEL Projects Ltd.
Carl Elia, Vice President
Carl joined Signal Hill in 2016 with over 8 years of experience investing in, advising and building businesses. Prior to joining Signal Hill, Carl was a Vice President with Brookfield Asset Management focused on the sourcing, due diligence, and execution of renewable energy investments globally for its public and private infrastructure funds.
Prior to Brookfield, Carl worked as an Associate in investment banking for two Toronto based, mid-market investment banks where he focused on debt and equity financing, and M&A. Previously, Carl was responsible for business development of an Ontario based restaurant franchise, expanding the franchise and implementing procedures chain-wide.
Stephen Orr, Vice President
Stephen joined Signal Hill in 2017, and has over 10 years of experience in advising and building businesses. Previously, he worked as a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he focused on operations, organization and corporate development for companies in the financial services and consumer industries.
Prior to BCG, Stephen practiced law in the New York offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and White & Case LLP, focusing primarily on mergers and acquisitions and private equity. Stephen also clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario where he worked closely with the judges on the decisions of the Court.
Victor Pang, Senior Associate
Victor joined Signal Hill in February 2015, bringing with him four years of experience in investment banking. He was previously an Associate at Raymond James in Toronto, where he assisted with mergers, acquisitions and financing transactions for companies in a variety of sectors including consumer, industrials, technology and real estate.
Victor holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (High Distinction) degree from the University of Toronto.
Peter Sun, Associate
Peter joined Signal Hill in January 2017. He previously worked at RBC's Mergers and Acquisitions team where he assisted in sourcing and executing mergers and acquisitions across a wide variety of industries including construction, energy services, engineering and technology. Prior to RBC, Peter worked at KPMG and Deloitte where he supported a number of advisory and valuation mandates.
Peter is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator and a CFA Charterholder. Peter holds a Master of Accounting and a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
